Let's Not Give Up Hope

The fate of a single man can be rich with significance, that of a few hundred less so, but the history of thousands and millions of men does not mean anything at all, in any adequate sense of the word.

-excerpt from Solaris

And yet, I believe that history wouldn't be anything without the combination of all our fates. All of us, from several different worlds, brought together...we change each other, change our perceptions of our own worlds, make friends, make enemies, make acquaintances that can never be forgotten...

Anyways, I'm digressing.

I was just thinking....do any of you have a flare? If there are other people outside Manhattan, it might be possible to alert them that we are here...but, of course, if no one is around us, it might be all for nothing.

But I'm not giving up hope. Not yet. Somehow, we will find a way out of here.

Yes, but how do you make a flare which reaches so high that it can be seen for miles? It has to be made exactly right, or it will explode before it reaches that key point in the atmosphere.

Or you just set it off from a higher point.

Hmmmm...that's true.

But the only point in making a flare is to make it large enough to be seen...

It's not as if there isn't enough firewood here.
