People are missing?

I...don't understand. So basically, people can disappear from here as well as appear here?

Does this happen often? But then, what happens to the people when they disappear? Do they go back to their worlds?

...

Fletcher, Russell, Dr. Angelicus...tell me you're okay.

We're fine.

Sometimes people just disappear, and sometimes they disappear in a big group like this. Looking at who's gone... this isn't just people going home. Whatever's in charge of this place took them somewhere. It's happened a few times before.

That's good...

Took them somewhere? So...this is like some sort of giant experiment, almost?

Who would want to experiment on a bunch of people from different worlds...it's quite strange...

Something like that. I don't know much about that. I try to keep my nose out of that kind of business. When he gets back, try asking Harry.

Are you kidding me? Who wouldn't want to experiment on them? I mean, I looked into the historical background of this place, and it looks like some people have a habit of using people that are different from them as subhuman. Same goes in my world, really. Why wouldn't a scientist of dubious ethics want to grab some of these people and see what makes them tick? It makes perfect sense to me.

Harry? Is he one of the people who disappeared?

I guess it does...but why would he (or she...or it) gather people in one place? Why couldn't they just take them one by one and experiment on them?

Unless...they wanted to test our reactions to each other...

Yeah, unfortunately.

Maybe they have more control over their variables here than in our worlds. Or, we could even just be the control group in a study.

That's also plausible.

Maybe. Maybe this world is more stable than others, a kind of "optimal enviroment" if you will.

But then, what is the purpose of the monsters? Are they biological weapons or creations tested on us to see whether we can survive? Or are they just hapless refugees like ourselves?

There's nothing to say they created them, really. Certainly they've learned to harness them, but they have done them a favor of creating their own little rat's maze. See how long it takes for us to get to the end.

Then...what is the reward, then? For surviving?

Or is there only a reward for those monster?
